Planning a Short Trip To Dalhousie And Khajjiar

Dalhousie and Khajjiar is small hill station in Himachal Pradesh, perfect for a weekend getaway or a romantic vacation. It's blessed with enchanting beauty, natural lakes, lavish green trees and beautiful houses.

We took this trip to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and it couldn't have been any more perfect. From location to hotel to food to the scenery to die for! A place where you can relax, have a glass of wine in your room with a mountain view, go for a walk in evening, sit down and chat as much as you can. It's a perfect getaway from a busy city life.

To make it even more special, all thanks to my sister, she baked us a cake, lot of cupcakes and muffins, and cake rusk for our trip. Best thing about the trip. We had fun hogging so much food in our whole trip.

So we took this trip in Dec, 2014 and it was a very cold morning, but afternoons are generally hot. And evenings/nights, the temperature can literally drop down to -2 degree. So that's the kind of normal temperature you need to keep in mind and pack accordingly.

Tip - If you are fond of walking like us, you can literally cover all of Dalhousie by walking. Dalhousie is roughly 10-11 kms big and so is Khajjiar. Both of the places are famous for romantic walks, and writers. People generally go there to relax, sit back, think and write.

How to reach Dalhousie - We took a train from Old Delhi Railway Station to Pathankot. From there, we have booked a driver and car to take us around.
Dalhousie is around 92 kms away from Pathankot Railway Station. And Khajjiar is around 24 kms away from Dalhousie.

Below are the places we followed to see a bit of this-and-that in Dalhousie and Khajjiar.

St. Andrew Church in Dalhousie
a small bird house outside a church, rare to see in India

Accommodation - We stayed at "Indraprastha Resorts".
A huge hotel with some great interiors. Good size rooms, great non vegetarian food and a helping staff if you need anything. The breakfast was really good and served only what you wish to eat.

Places to see -
"Satdhara", also called as seven springs i.e. seven springs come and join together in one spring, but due to some natural disaster, it was destroyed and now they've constructed a small square shaped place there, where seven springs come and join.

Travel Itinerary on Dalhousie for weekend trip
St. Andrew Church

"St. Andrew Church", located half a km away from Dalhousie Bus Stand. It's located in the main Dalhousie market. This church is the oldest one in Dalhousie but still in a very good condition and maintained very well.

One must walk around to see the local beauty, have local ice creams. You can see mountains and greens from anywhere you stand.

"St. Patrick Church", located approx. 2 kms away from Dalhousie Bus Stand. They have a huge and beautiful hall to pray and very peaceful.

Weekend Getaway from Delhi NCR

Just near this church there is a road called as "Thandi Sadak" which goes to "Garam Sadak", it's approx. 2.5 kms walk. On one side, there is no sun and other the sun rises. Hence the names are kept that ways. That was the most beautiful and romantic walk we both have had together. And one must do this for the beautiful views.

"Jhadhri Ghar", private property and a huge palace which can only be viewed from outside. You need special permissions to have a sneak peak form inside.

To leave for Khajjiar, preferably leave in morning so you can enjoy the drive. This place is also called as Mini Switzerland.

Accommodation - We stayed at "Mini Swiss" which is a part of Indraprastha Resort. The rooms are small but cozy, designed by keeping Switzerland outlook in mind.
